SUHAR: In a remarkable achievement highlighting the rising literary talent among Omani youth, Aisha bint Abdullah al Mazrouai has once again secured first place in the Sharjah School Theatre Playwriting Award (Student Category) in its 13th edition, marking her second victory in the prestigious international competition.
Aisha’s latest win comes through her script 'Room 7', a deeply reflective theatrical work that combines intellectual depth with compelling dramatic storytelling.
Her return to the top spot not only underscores her consistency, but also signals the emergence of a strong creative voice capable of resonating beyond the classroom.
Unlike conventional student scripts, 'Room 7' explores the inner worlds of its characters. The story follows four students racing against time to recover a missing project notebook just an hour before a crucial presentation.
What begins as a simple search evolves into an emotional and psychological journey. Inside the symbolic 'Room 7', each character confronts personal truths, realising that what they once considered strengths may, in fact, be their greatest limitations. By the end, the students gain something far more valuable than their lost project — a deeper understanding of themselves.
Speaking to the Observer, Aisha said her journey into theatre writing began with a strong desire to give life to her thoughts. “I didn’t want my ideas to remain trapped in my mind,” she said. “Theatre allows me to express them, to let others see and feel them. Winning was also a goal, especially in a competition of this international level.”
Her words reflect both ambition and clarity of purpose. For Aisha, the award is not a destination but a stepping stone. She describes theatre as the 'father of all arts', a space where storytelling, emotion and intellect converge. This latest recognition, she added, strengthens her resolve to continue writing and exploring new creative horizons.
Behind her success lies a disciplined routine — extensive reading, daily writing, listening to podcasts, and critically analysing theatrical texts and performances. These practices, she noted, have refined her craft and shaped her distinctive voice.
Looking ahead, Aisha aspires to compile her theatrical works into a published collection and see her scripts brought to life on stage — a goal that now feels increasingly within reach.
